How do I order sod for installation?
- To find out if we install sod in your area or to order a measuring service for an installation, please contact us at
Office@CreekSodFarms.com
Do you offer free estimates or measuring services?
- Your measuring service is credited towards the cost of your overall install with us, making it free after installation purchase.
I’m a contractor, can I get sod delivered to a build site?
- Yes. We can deliver to construction zones.
Can I buy just a few rolls of sod?
- Yes. You can buy sod directly from the farm, and you can buy as little as a single square yard. Keep in mind though, you will need to order well in advance. All orders are filled in the order in which they are received, and due to weather and contract obligations we are unable to cut sod each week.
How far in advance do I need to order if all I want is a few rolls of sod?
- It’s always a good idea to put your order in as far ahead as you can. We take orders up to 18 months in advance, but please be aware prices are subject to change.
What is the average estimated wait time once a sod order has been placed?
- This varies greatly and is influenced by factors such as the weather, number of orders in line ahead of you, and contract obligations (if we are contracted to be working out of town or out of state during the time period in which you wish to pick-up your sod). We are upfront about likely wait times when you start your order, and can discuss it with you in greater detail then. We have seen people wait as little as two weeks, and we have seen them wait as long as one year. With that in mind, we do remind you that we take orders as far in advance as 18 months.
How can I cancel an order for sod pick-up or postpone it?
- If you’ve left your name and number with us for an order and need to make changes, just let us know before you confirm your order for a specific date. Once you have confirmed your order and the sod has been cut for you, however, we are unable to cancel the order.
How do I order sod without an install?
- To start an order, contact us at
Office@CreekSodFarms.com.
- Be sure to place your order early. All orders are filled in the order in which they are received, and sod cannot be cut every week. When you place your order, keep in mind that it is tentative, and you can change it up until someone has called to confirm your order. If you wish to add to or subtract from your order, just let us know and we’ll be happy to make any changes you request up until the order has been confirmed.
- If someone calls to confirm your order but the day available does not work for you, simply let the caller know and we will keep you on our order list and call you next time.
- Please be aware, you cannot cancel your order once it has been confirmed and the sod has been cut for you to pick-up.
How much sod comes on a pallet?
- Our pallets have 50 Square Yard rolls of sod, which is the equivalent of 450 Square Feet
How big are the pallets?
- Our pallets are custom made for us, and are 4 Feet by 4 Feet
How many pallets fit on a semi?
What is the Refundable Pallet Deposit?
- The Refundable Pallet Deposit is $10 per pallet and is returned after the check for the sod has cleared and the pallets have been brought back. The deposit return check will be mailed to the address on the check you used to pay for your order unless you request a different address be used.
What size are your rolls of sod?
- Our rolls are 1 Square Yard, and the shape of that cut is 6 Feet Long by 18 Inches Wide.
How much does the sod weigh?
- Each Square Yard roll will weigh around 50 LBS depending on the amount of water it has retained.
- A full pallet of sod will weigh around 2,500 LBS.
- A full semi load will weight around 50,000 LBS.
If I measured my jobsite in Square Feet, how do I know how many Square Yards or pallets I need?
- Divide your Square Foot measurement by 9 to get the equivalent number of Square Yards.
- Divide that number by 50 to get the number of pallets you’ll need.
Why don’t you cut sod when it rains?
- The heavy equipment we use to shave the sod off the ground can damage the sod as it’s being cut if the sod is too loose or soft from water.
Why don’t you cut sod when there is high heat and there hasn’t been any rain in weeks?
- The heavy equipment we use to shave the sod off the ground can damage the sod it is trying to cut if the sod is too dry and crumbles when being cut.
- More importantly, dry sod does not root well, and we don’t want to sell you a product that won’t last.
What is the best time of year to sod my yard?
- Spring and Fall are the most popular seasons for sodding due to their cooler, wetter weather. Keep in mind though, wet weather will mean unavoidable and unexpected delays when doing ground work, and it will be best to keep your project schedule flexible.
Do you guarantee your sod?
- We guarantee that we will deliver or install a healthy product; however, we remind you that watering and upkeep of the installed product will affect its overall health and is your responsibility. We cannot be responsible for the quality of watering or upkeep after we have delivered our product or finished its installation.
Do you offer a watering service for sod after it is installed?
- Watering services are available for state or contract jobs, but are not available for individual residences at this time due to the size of the water trucks.
How often do I need to water my sod after it is installed?
- In high heat months, water sod three times a day, once each in the morning, afternoon, and evening. During cooler or cloudier months, water twice a day, once each in the morning and the evening. Continue for three weeks or until the sod is firmly rooted. Water HEAVILY. Some yellow discoloration during this re-rooting period is normal, and will mow out once the sod is established.
How do I know if my sod is firmly rooted and ready for mowing?
- Firmly rooted sod should resist being lifted up. To check if your sod is firmly rooted, go to a corner of where sod was laid down, grasp your fist into the blades of grass at the corner, and tug up sharply. If the corner no longer lifts, your sod is rooted and ready for mowing.
Do you take credit or debit cards?
- Unfortunately, we do not take card payments at this time. Please come prepared with a check with your current address on it, as well as a current, valid state ID that shows the same address.
Do you deliver sod if I don’t also schedule an install?
- We do. You can get a minimum of 4 pallets of sod delivered, with a maximum of 20 pallets per semi-truck load.
- Delivery fees are calculated based on location and number of trucks needed, so contact us at
Office@CreekSodFarms.com for an estimated delivery price. Please be aware, delivery times vary and are based on availability.
What type of sod do you offer for pickup and delivery?
- Our sod is a tall blend fescue grown from a traditional contractor’s mix of grass seed that has some Bluegrass seed in for root structure.
Is your sod netted?
- We cut from more than one farm, and some of our rolls are netted.
What kind of fertilizer do you recommend?
- A traditional 10-10-10 blend fertilizer
What kind of ground preparation do I need?
- Ground for sodding, as well as seeding with straw, should be level and clear of debris such as rocks and sticks, as well as free from weeds. Any weeds that are sodded or seeded over will grow up through the new grass.
- If you are in the TN / KY area and have a yard that is mostly red clay which has never supported a lawn before, you will need to spread topsoil first.
- It is not necessary to wet the ground before sod installation, but it is necessary for you to begin your watering schedule for the sod as soon as the installation is complete.
What are your erosion control blankets made of?
- We use straw blankets unless a contract calls for other specifications.
Are you doing guardrail at this time?
- We are not currently focused on guardrail services at this time, but are still licensed to provide them, and will consider it based on contract requirements.
Do you offer hydro-seeding for individual residences?
- Unfortunately, given the size of the equipment used to perform hydro-seeding, it is not an option for individual residences at this time.
Do you sell topsoil?
- While we are equipped for ground leveling services such as preparation with a Harley Rake, we do not sell top soil to the public.
Can you import Zoysia or other blends of sod?
Where is your farm located?
- We operate primarily out of three farms located in Warren County, but we truck our sod into Bowling Green for pick-up orders.
What is the owner’s cellphone number?
- If you wish to reach out to Stephanie, the best way to reach her is by email
Stephanie.Baker@CreekSodFarms.com For jobsite safety reasons, our office does not distribute her cellphone number. She is often working with other employees operating large equipment in busy construction sites where cellphones are a safety hazard.
Employment Questions
I work for a temp agency; can I work with you?
- Most of our employees earn the majority of their paychecks while working on state contracts, and so must be on our insurance as per state requirements. For that reason, we prefer to hire outright. We do offer job training, though, so if you are interested in a position with us, fill out the job application link on our website.
I was thinking about applying for a job. Do I need a CDL license to drive for you?
- No. We are farm-licensed and will evaluate your driving skills and experience when you apply.
What kind of work do most of your employees do?
- Most of our employees work outdoors installing sod and erosion control blankets, performing hydro-seeding and mulching, and spreading and stacking straw. Other duties, such as loading trucks for jobsites or cleaning up the repair shop at the end of the day, are also shared. We are a small company, and most of our employees work together on the same crew, including the owners, who will never ask you to do a job that they don’t do themselves.
